West Country Embroiderers covers the counties of Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Wiltshire. It was begun in 1973 to promote and encourage embroidery for all. Today the group encourages all textiles and needlecraft. There are thirty three autonomous groups with around 800 members. Each group has it’s own committee and programme of events.
The Wimborne Group of the West Country Embroiderers meet at Three Legged Cross Village Hall on the third Tuesday of each month except August and December. The meeting starts at 10am and closes at 3pm.
There are regular workshops and events including a Dorset Day held at Hamworthy Club.
There is a central Executive Committee, with Maggie Grey as President, which meets three times a year. This committee oversees the whole organisation and produces two newsletters a year. There are exhibitions throughout the year and residential courses for members held in February or March and October or November at the Kingcombe Centre in Toller Pororum, Dorchester and Treloyan Manor in St Ives.
